An insurance analysis of challenges affecting the aviation industry cites the growing number of runway incursions as one of the most persistent threats to aviation safety. Other factors include increased instances of interference with GPS signals and adjustments to the introduction of new aviation technologies.
The analysis by global insurer Allianz Commercial cited data showing that, in the United States, the rate of runway incursions rose over the past decade from 25 incursions per 1 million takeoffs and landings to more than 30 incursions per million.
