The International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO’s) Global Reporting Format (GRF) is now applicable worldwide with a design intended to enable improved planning for clearing runways of snow and ice and more effective use of deicing, the agency says.
The GRF, which became applicable on Nov. 4, will help limit the risk of runway excursions, the most common type of aviation accident, ICAO said.
“The harmonization of the assessment and reporting of runway surface conditions will not only benefit runway safety, but also efficiency and sustainability, through a better planning of contaminant removal and the more effective use of deicing and other treatments,” ICAO said.
