Airline passengers might remember more of the information contained in preflight safety briefings if the information were presented in an interactive style instead of on briefing cards or in videos, according to a new study by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The study, described in a report issued in July, tested participants on how well they remembered safety information that was presented either on briefing card, in a video or through participation in a “serious game” – a game, often presented in video form, that is designed primarily to educate the viewer, or for some other serious purpose rather than entertainment.
“There are significant differences in knowledge retention based upon the presentation style of safety information,” the report said. “Having a participant virtually perform the action being taught creates a better understanding of the action and results in better retention of the information.”
