The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is pressing its advocacy of safety management systems (SMS), incorporating into its new Most Wanted List of Transportation Safety Improvements a provision urging that all operators of revenue passenger-carrying flights be required to implement an SMS.
One other entry on the 10-item list for 2021 and 2022 also is aimed at aviation – a provision calling on the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to require that passenger-carrying aircraft be equipped with crash-resistant data, audio and video recorders and that they establish flight data monitoring programs.
The eight other list items involve other forms of transportation.
