The Australian government has unveiled plans for a “whole-of-government … ecosystem” intended to enable the safe operation of drones and other forms of advanced air mobility (AAM).
The National Emerging Aviation Technologies Policy Statement, released in early May by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications (DITRDC), said the plans are aimed at enabling the adoption of “new and emerging digital aviation technology.”
Included in the package of initiatives outlined in the policy statement are the establishment of an unmanned aircraft system traffic management (UTM) system and a national drone detection network.
