The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is including two types of runway accidents ‒ overruns and incursions ‒ on its 2020 list of key issues that it says must be addressed to enhance safety in the country’s transportation system.
The TSB Watchlist 2020, released Oct. 29, cited overruns and incursions as two of the eight key transportation issues considered especially in need of attention. Both have been included on previous versions of the Watchlist. The new Watchlist also included issues affecting other modes of transportation, including railroads and the commercial fishing industry.
“Will fixing these transportation safety issues be easy?” TSB Chair Kathy Fox asked. “Of course not. Government and industry stakeholders still need to work together, more than they already are and in new and different ways. We will continue to monitor these issues, reporting progress as it happens and bring attention where needed.”
