“Inadequate phraseology,” coupled with a flight crew’s inability to understand an air traffic controller’s conversation in French with another crew, were responsible for a 2014 runway incursion at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, the French Bureau d’Enquêtes et d’Analyses (BEA) says.
No one was hurt in the Nov. 25, 2014, serious incident, and no aircraft were damaged, the BEA said in the English version of its final report, issued in July.
The incident involved a Bulgaria Air Airbus A319, which had just arrived at Charles de Gaulle after a flight from Sofia, Bulgaria, and a Freebird Airlines A320, which was beginning a flight to Istanbul.
The morning of the incident, Runways 08L and 08R were in use, with takeoffs on Runway 08L and landings on Runway 08R. “The crews of the landing aeroplanes therefore had to cross Runway 08L in order to get to the airport terminals,” the report said.
