The aviation industry will need 2.3 million new commercial pilots, cabin crewmembers and maintenance technicians over the next 20 years, according to Boeing’s forecast of staffing needs, issued in late July.
In its Pilot and Technician Outlook, 2023–2042, Boeing says 649,000 new pilots will be needed over the 20-year period, along with 938,000 cabin crewmembers and 690,000 technicians.
Domestic travel markets have fully recovered from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and international markets are expected to recover by 2024, the Outlook says.
“Effective training and an adequate supply of personnel remain critical to maintain the health, safety and prosperity of the global aviation ecosystem,” the document says.
